Phone Tim McCall has been involved with furniture restoration and furniture crafts for over 40 years. He studied initially at West Dean College in England and went on to graduate from the London College of Furniture in Furniture Conservation and Furniture Design. He later attended postgraduate studies at the Conservation and Analytic Labs of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC on the Furniture Conservation program.
He initially worked in London and South-East England where, in addition to private clients, institutional clients included the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Bethnal Green Museum, Mansion House, Lincoln Inn Fields and the Geffrye Museum in London.
In 1988 he moved to the US to work as an in-house furniture conservator at the Biltmore House in North Carolina, becoming supervisor of the Furniture Conservation Department.
More recently he has been a private practice conservator in North Carolina with both private and institutional clients such as the Mint Museum in Charlotte, the High Museum and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem as well as regional historical associations.
He has been a Professional Associate member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (www.conservation-us.org) as well as a member of the South-East Regional Conservation Association.
